Claudia Towne Hirtenfelder began the Animal Turn in February 2020 as a culmination of her interests in animals, ethics, and media. She has a PhD in Geography from Queen's University and has research interests in the pasts and futures of urban animals. She is the founder, host, and producer of The Animal Turn and The Animal Highlight podcasts. She has worked for a range of universities and organizations including Queen's University, the Vienna University of Business and Economies, the Phoenix Zones Initiative, and Transfarmation Austria.
